Jack Van Hiele passed away the night of January 13, 2011, having operated the longest-running contemporary art gallery in San Francisco for over 50 years.
The court-appointed administrator of the estate needs to distribute the remaining works in order to pay outstanding estate obligations. The administrator is a friend and supporter of Jack Van Hiele, but is not a qualified professional in selling or judging art. If you are interested in making a contribution to the estate and receiving a piece of artwork, you must examine the work and assume all responsibility as to the originality, condition and value of the art.
Gallery records regarding this collection are minimal and inaccurate. Most of the art was given to Jack Van Hiele as a present by artists he represented. Some were brought by Jack from Europe many years ago. Some artists could not be located and the art must be counted as part of the estate.
We appreciate your interest in this private collection. Please note the following:
Amounts listed represent not the value of the artwork, but suggested minimum contributions to the estate, in return for which you will receive title to the work. In most cases, the art is worth many times the suggested contribution. All funds received will go towards paying estate obligations. The administrator will not receive payment for services relating to website, art storage or time to handle estate matters. All checks and money transfers should be made to the Jack Van Hiele Estate. The beneficiaries and the administrator of the estate do not expect to receive any distributions from the estate.
International clients: Once you show interest in a work, we will post a "reserved" note for that piece in the website. As soon as we can, we'll send you an estimate of boxing and shipping the artwork to you, along with wiring instructions. You will have a week to transfer your distribution to the Jack Van Hiele Estate at Wells Fargo Bank, N.A., San Francisco. If your wire is not received within seven work days, the art will be available for other interested persons.
All items are represented as is, with all faults. There are no warranties or representations of merchantability, of fitness, nor of any other kind, express or implied. All art works are available for your examination. Your offer to receive a piece of art will signify that you have examined the item as fully as you desire, or that you have chosen not to examine it. Written and oral descriptions are opinions and should in no way be construed as a guarantee of any kind as to age, condition, materials or any other feature of the item in question. You should examine all items in which you have an interest. If you require absolute certainty in any areas of authenticity, quality, condition of art or any other attribute, and your evaluation leaves some uncertainty in your mind, we recommend you do not make a contribution. There will be no refunds. All contributions to the estate are final. No statement written or oral made by the administrator of the estate shall be deemed a warranty or assumption of liability by the estate.
Any statements and descriptions relating to age, attribution, authenticity, size, genuineness, provenance, historical relevance or significance, physical condition, importance, quality, quantity, rarity, period, culture, source or origin, are presented as statements of opinion only.
We do not have the facility to process credit cards. Personal checks, money orders or wire transfers from banks are accepted, payable to the Jack Van Hiele Estate. Please e-mail to verify that the art you're interested in is still available and to confirm packing and shipping charges to your location if you do not choose to pick the art up from Alameda, CA. Distibutions within California are subject to Sales Tax. We will confirm shipping date, usually within five work days of receipt of contribution payable to the estate. Contributions to the estate are NOT tax deductible.
